White Mold or Sclerotinia Rot
Figure 13. White mold or Sclerotinia rot is
characterized by white cottony fungal growth often containing hard, black
structures resembling small raisins (sclerotia). Infection usually occurs
where fruit they are in contact with soil. It could be confused with Phytophthora
fruit rot (see
Fig. 11) or Pythium fruit rot (see
Fig. 12); however, sclerotia only occur with white mold. Stems can
also be affected by white mold.
